whether和if的區(qū)別和用法：

一、引導(dǎo)賓語(yǔ)從句,一般既可用whether也可用if.但

1 or not放在whether之后時(shí),只能用whether不用if.

I don’t know whether or not he will come. 我不知道他是不是回來(lái).

注1：如果or not放在whether所引導(dǎo)的從句句尾,則可以用if來(lái)替換.

I don’t know whether/if he will come or not.我不知道他是不是回來(lái).

2 在強(qiáng)調(diào)任意選擇時(shí),用whether…or,此時(shí)不用if替換whether.

He asked me whether I wanted to go there by train or by bus.他問(wèn)我是想乘火車還是坐公共汽車去那里科普童謠.

注：whether和or一起還有“不管”之意,引導(dǎo)讓步狀語(yǔ)從句.

Whether he drives or takes the train, he will be here on time.不管開車來(lái)還是乘火車來(lái),他都會(huì)準(zhǔn)時(shí)到.

3 雖引導(dǎo)賓語(yǔ)從句,但為了強(qiáng)調(diào)賓語(yǔ)部分,也可把從句放在句首,此時(shí)只用whether不用if.

4 從句作介詞賓語(yǔ)時(shí)只用whether不用if.

5 作discuss等動(dòng)詞的賓語(yǔ)時(shí),用whether不用if.

6 句子中有if引導(dǎo)的條件句,如再有表示“是否”的賓語(yǔ)從句,用whether不用if.

二、在引導(dǎo)主語(yǔ)從句、表語(yǔ)從句、同位語(yǔ)從句時(shí)一般用whether不用if.如：

⑴Whether it is true remains a question.(主語(yǔ)從句)那是不是真的還是個(gè)問(wèn)題.

⑵The question is whether it is true.(表語(yǔ)從句)問(wèn)題是是不是真的.

⑶We have a doubt whether it is true.(同位語(yǔ)從句) 我們懷疑那是不是真的.

注:whether引導(dǎo)主語(yǔ)從句放在主句之后時(shí)可用if來(lái)代替.

It is unclear whether/if he likes the present.他是不是喜歡那個(gè)禮物還不清楚.

三、用在動(dòng)詞不定式之前時(shí)用whether不用if.

I don’t know whether to go there at once. 我不知道是不是該立刻去那里.

whether和if的區(qū)別口訣：

在引導(dǎo)主語(yǔ)從句時(shí)，一般用whether，而不用if。在引導(dǎo)賓語(yǔ)從句時(shí)，一般情況下whether和if可以通用。從句中含有or，強(qiáng)調(diào)選擇，這里只宜用whether;賓語(yǔ)從句中包括一個(gè)if從句，則宜用whether)等。

引導(dǎo)賓語(yǔ)從句

這時(shí)兩者的含義區(qū)別很小，一般可通用。

I don't know whether/if they will come to help us.

但是，當(dāng)whether與or not連成一個(gè)詞組時(shí)，whether不可換用if。

I don't know whether or not they will come for our help.

若whether和or not不連在一起，在口語(yǔ)中可以用if取代whether，當(dāng)然也可以用whether。

I don't care if/whether your car breaks down or not.我不在乎您的車是否是會(huì)出故障。

此外，還有三種情況值得注意：

(1)在介詞后面只能用whether，不能用if。

I am not interested in whether you'll come or not.

(2)在動(dòng)詞不定式之前，只能用whether，不能用if。

(3)在及物運(yùn)動(dòng)discuss后的賓語(yǔ)從句中，只能用whether，不能用if。

其他

1.if可以用來(lái)引導(dǎo)一個(gè)否定的賓語(yǔ)從句，whether則不能用來(lái)引導(dǎo)否定的賓語(yǔ)從句，因?yàn)樗硎菊磧煞矫娴倪x擇意義比較強(qiáng)。

2.if除引導(dǎo)賓語(yǔ)從句外，還可以引導(dǎo)條件狀語(yǔ)從句，作“是否”解。在容易引起混淆產(chǎn)生歧義的情況下，就不可用if，而須用whether。
